The Actor gets its trends in batches of 50 or 100 and cutting down the number of items is not recommended, because we might miss important trends, and even sorting by number of tweets is not recommended either because trends change literally each minute.

is there a way that I can limit the results effectively?
The only way outside this Actor is to go to the source and use a twitter developer account to use the proprietary API. If I had to make a request for each result then the price per 1000 results of the Actor would be much higher as the platform usage will also go up.
