job descriptions are cut
Closed
Hello, I am looking for a scraper which will return full job descriptions. However it cuts them ending with "show more/show less" is there a quick way to fix it so that I can start using it ? thanks.

Hi! Great question. The "show more/show less" text you’re seeing is actually a default UI element added by LinkedIn—it appears whether the job description is short or long.
When scraping, you might still see this text, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the job description is incomplete. In most cases, the full content is actually present in the HTML; it's just collapsed visually on the site.
To confirm, could you share an example where the job description is genuinely being cut off in the data (not just hidden by the UI)? That would help determine if there’s an issue with the scraper or if it’s just how LinkedIn displays things.
Let me know!

Hello. Looks like I have to be sleeping at nights, not looking at json outputs. I checked few entries, comparing to the web site job descriptions, confirming full descriptions, just finishing with those "show more / less" as they come from the section collapse control. that was initially confusing and I thought json returns only part of description. Allright, I will give it a try for a month, I can remove those extras myself. it's up to you, if you'd like the idea about removing that confusing text ending, it will just make output a little better. And thank you for the quick response. Good day!

Thanks for the suggestion—I'll keep it in mind! Happy scraping!

something i can suggest for dice jobs - we can resolve their urls to the job apply url (originally it leads to appcast.io which then actually forwards to the page with job application) I have done some code with playwright, can share if you'd like

Yeah, I actually considered adding custom logic to handle specific job URL cases, but it felt a bit overkill for a general-purpose scraper. That said, you could definitely layer your own logic on top using the Apify API.
