I used the same codes to scrape the replies from the same conversation. However the codes always stopped prematurely.

You can also try that to see how many you get. You can also try to use some more twitter query filters and try to see if it will return more.

As I mentioned we don't have any control on how many tweets Twitter returns with a given query. You can try to use some other query filters in your search terms and try to get more. With the following one, I got way more tweets than 40:
