I'm putting this issue really more for future customers. 15 / 16 days ago I intended to process 1.2 million requests and had 30 runs start cuncurrently. The idea was that each run handled about 40k users and we could process our results in a period of a day. The result was that our runs apparently brought down the actor. If you look at the previous reported issue, this was problably due to my run. Let me state first that APIDojo is extremely, extremely responsive. That is definitely a big plus with any provider. I reached out via Discord at which time they brought the actor down for maintenance. I was left frustated and disapointed with my experience. I'm not going to get into specifics here as I'm not writing this to scold the company. I'm writing this so that a future customer, by reading this, is spared the time I wasted in running the actors only to finally be confirmed that the actor cannot handle high loads of requests. To be completely transparent, I find their support very eager to help, very responsive, and overall nice to communicate with. However with this particular issue, they were mis informed, they mis informed me, and finally came to conclude my problems were caused by overloading the system. At this time, my suggestion is if you are going to use the actor to do light work then it does work well. If you are counting on this to do heavy lifting, look elsewhere.
Hey atlasgp!
Thank you very much for sharing your experience transparently. As you mentioned, the whole story started with a miscommunication (caused by our side) that led into the R&D phase, and eventually came back to the point where you suggested in the first place. Of course, this led you into a time-waste and frustration which we are very sorry for you to experience. We are a company that respects our clients, accepts our mistakes, and tries to learn from these bitter experiences.
We are sure that we will develop precautions for such problems, which we started by adding this note to our README document, in the disclaimer section.
Please let us know if there is something that we can help you with in the meantime.
Note to future & current clients: After our benchmarks, we concluded that the actor cannot handle more than 10K+ items in a single run, and is not capable of heavy lifting. Until any further notice, which we will add a comment under this issue, it remains as it is. Cheers
